Farm Share Food Distribution tomorrow, Saturday February 27th from 10:00am - 1:00pm. Farm Share partners with Senator Greg Evers and Representatives MIke Hill, Doug Broxson, and Clay Ingram to provide emergency assistance to the families in Escambia County who were devastated by the severe tornado damage this week.

Located at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 3960 Spanish Trail Road Pensacola, Florida. First come, first serve event!

Victims of the tornado who need debris/tree removal should email their address, description of need/issue, and any notes of safety hazard to melissa@unitedwayescambia.org.  We will compile a list of a partner with Christ in Action who will bring volunteers and heavy equipment to assist this weekend. 211 will collect names and send to Melissa.

All Escambia county schools and government offices will resume normal operating hours Wednesday, February 24th.

Summary of damage and response occurring in Northern Escambia

Roughly 30 residences suffered damage, about ½ of them are mobile homes, they are still working on assessments, may have more identified.  American Red Cross has staff up there to do some preliminary case management work, and Salvation Army is getting together response for food and other immediate needs.  They are setting up a one-stop center at the “Ag Center”, which will  allow for intake of client needs.

BRACE is working closely with the American Red Cross, The Salvation Army, Florida Baptist Disaster Relief, Christian Aid Ministries and many other Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster  to support survivors in the Town of Century and in areas of the County as far south as McDavid.  Emergency Management has asked that BRACE serve in a coordinative role and that our team members register volunteers willing to affiliate with other voluntary organizations and draft “work orders” that will be referred to voluntary organizations active in disaster as soon as it is safe to send in volunteers.  Emergency Management has specifically asked BRACE to NOT deploy volunteer teams into the area until they determine it is safe to do so.

BRACE will be establishing a Volunteer Team Assignment Center at the Multi Agency Resource Center (MARC) at the community center (Ag Building) in Century.  BRACE leadership has asked the Pensacola News Journal to assist in the promotion of the donations link we have established: www.helpNWFLrecover.org .  We are the organization designated in the County’s Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan as the organization responsible for coordinating the acceptance and distribution of financial contributions.  Based on multiple conversations with individuals that have seen the damage in Century first hand, the most impacted areas are those that are most impoverished.  Reports on many of the households impacted suggests their annual income is in the range of $7,000 - $15,000… Extremely Low income by HUD standards.

United Way Response

As a support organization for ESF 15 Volunteers and donations, BRACE requested we open our donation portal to solicit disaster relief funds, and issue press release if possible.  As this matches our typical response during disaster, our marketing team reactivated our disaster donation page and the web link for individuals wishing to make donations.  That link is the same as it has been in the past www.helpNWFLrecover.org .  Please share this link with the community so that we can drive support to those impacted by the storm.

Escambia County School District office: Schools that were closed today are set to be up and running tomorrow. Pensacola State College Century Center will be closed through Thursday February 18th, but the college is rearranging classes and accommodating students.

BRACE CERT teams have deployed to the town of Century to assist with volunteer coordination.

Flooding in Escambia County:  specifically Forest Creek Apartments-American Red Cross has opened a shelter at Warrington United Methodist Church, 301 East Winthrop Avenue, Pensacola   850 455-0306 for residents that need temporary shelter. News reports do not suggest the flooding at the apartments is widespread this time.  8.18.13

The Salvation Army will have backpacks with pre-filled school supplies (primarily for middle and high school age)--to be distributed Friday, August 16th from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.  Requires ID for adult and proof the child is enrolled in an Escambia County school.  Try to be selective in sending families here--if they already have obtained school supplies at their school, don't send them.  Note that some of the schools receive supplies but are not very generous in their distribution.  If you hear that a particular school is doing this, maybe Salvation Army is a better resource.

Please do not refer callers to any of the Homeless Coalitions across our coverage area. They do not provide direct assistance.
